Here’s The One Team Unbeaten by Messi

Lionel Messi. 31 years of age. Considered to be the GOAT. Others think otherwise as they consider CR7 to be better than the Argentinian.

With an overwhelming career that doesn’t seem to be ending soon, Messi and his club Barcelona have beaten any team, once or more, that crossed their paths.

Since wearing the Blaugrana shirt for the first team, the 1.70 metres forward encountered 85 different teams. One time or another Messi and Barcelona were on the winning side against 84 of them.

Only one team remains a taboo for Messi, who was nicknamed the Messiah at just the age of 20.

This team happens to be a Spanish one, but the probability of playing against each other is very unlikely. Barcelona and Messi were not able to beat UDA Gramenet, a Segunda Catalana division team.

Barcelona and Messi were not able to beat UDA Gramenet, a Segunda Catalana division team.

It was in his early days that Barcelona and Gramenet met in the Copa del Rey in the 2004-05 season. They played each other on the 27th October 2004, in the First Round. At the time, Barca’s opponents were playing in the Segunda Division B.

Surprisingly, UDA Gramenet beat Barcelona 1-0 after extra time through Olles, who celebrated by taking off his shirt and doing a somersault.

Since then, Messi has never faced them again. In that same season, the low-rated team was eliminated by Real Betis in the Quarter Finals with a slim aggregate score of 6-5. Real Betis were the team to lift the Copa del Rey trophy that season.

In 2004, Messi was just 17 years of age, playing with the number 30. At that time, he surely wouldn’t have imagined that UDA Gramenet would become the only team he hasn’t beaten (yet) during his illustrious career, 15 years down the line.

An interesting fact is that both teams had met a year before, also in the Copa del Rey competition. Barcelona won the game 1-0 thanks to a Ronaldinho goal. However, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Levante UD.

UDA Gramenet is a Catalan team like Barcelona, as it is based in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, which happens to be in Catalonia. It was founded in 1945, and the full name is Union Deportiva Atletico Gramenet Milan.

Nicknamed Grana, the team came about the merging of three separate teams: FC Gramenet, UD Colomense and CF Baleares. In 1956, the club reached the national categories, and in 1993, it was promoted for the first time to the third division.

The success registered against Barcelona was the only achievement acquired in the Copa del Rey by UDA Gramenet, as in the following years and up till 2019, it participated only in the playoffs of 2006 against UD Salamanca, losing 3-6 on aggregate.

Recently, in 2014, the city hall ordered the team, to leave the municipal stadium, and since then, UDA Gramenet plays its games at Sant Andria de Besbos, which holds a mere 1,000 spectators.
