International coaches agree that Europa League should be played in Malta not Baku

Coaches from different clubs hit out at the decision of having this season’s Europa League final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Baku’s Olympic stadium. According to some coaches, the final should have been played in what is more considered a European country, Malta.

Respective victories over Valencia and Eintracht Frankfurt ensured both European finals will be contested by English clubs after Tottenham and Liverpool reached next month’s Champions League showpiece occasion in Madrid having completed epic comebacks in their own semi-finals.

One who raised his voice about Baku was Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp deeming this decision ‘irresponsible’. Klopp voiced his sympathy with supporters of Arsenal and Chelsea who have to make roughly 6,000-mile round trips. This trip does not secure them a ticket given that both clubs have only been allocated 6,000 each by UEFA.

“I think going to Baku, that’s really funny for a European final. Why not go to Malta? It is closer, they were a British colony and they are supporters of UK football. Have you ever seen these guys during the world cup?

These guys who make the decisions, I don’t know what they have for breakfast really. Do they know how much the Government of Malta worked to get Ryanair, Easy Jet, Air Malta to fly from Malta to the UK? It’s insane. And then? We go play a final at Azerbaijan. How can you do it?

“I think going to Baku, that’s really funny for a European final. Why not go to Malta? It is closer, they were a British colony and they are supporters of UK football. Have you ever seen these guys during the world cup?

Last year we go to Kiev which is a wonderful city but that a Russian team, or one from that part of the world, will be involved is not really likely. You go there and now Madrid has to prepare for 200,000 English fans. Baku I have no clue how to get there or if there is any regular flight at al. In these decisions people must be much more sensible and reasonable. It is irresponsible.

Number one Klopp’s current supporter, Jose Mourinho echoed his same thought. “Malta’s football stadium ground is shit. Everybody knows it. But it is always better than going to Baku. Maltese people know how to celebrate and they love UK football. This UEFA decision to go to Baku is shit.

I know that Malta Government knows Azerbaijan very well. I heard some news about oil or something, so they might know more about flights and how to get there. So please Malta help us here as surely we have no clue of this” said Mourinho.

From his end, ex Italy and Juventus coach Antonio Conte reminded his times when Italy played against Malta at the National stadium. “We all know that Malta is the centre of the Mediterranean. This is a historical and geographical fact. That said, love it or hate it, Malta is close for everyone. If Klopp doesn’t know what these people eat for breakfast, I don’t know what they eat for lunch or dinner. I think they need pasta to make them think.

I will not comment about the state of their stadium as I don’t want to put salt in an open wound, but come on, Baku no.”

FACT. The Azerbaijan stadium has a capacity of 68,700 of which only 12,000 will be for Britons.
