Oops! UK has it all in Champions League
This year’s Champions League has seen big names walk out of the league, dubbed by not so famous teams, with not many fancy players on board.
Big teams with big names starting from Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United’s Paul Pogba are not seeing this year’s final’s Champions League except on television. Probably they will all watch it together at Moggi’s place in Gzira.
After all, he already had a gathering with coaches and players alike to mentally support them during the Lost & Found festival.
This week was full of surprises. First Liverpool drowned Barcelona in shame with a comeback of 4-0 and then Tottenham against Ajax when Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick to secure a 3-2 win in Amsterdam. Just a few weeks ago, the Dutch team were seen as heroes after managing to win over Juventus. This loss has seen Ronaldo crying for not being in the Champions League after a very long time.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino last week suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Dutch team and got off to the worst possible start in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening as Matthijis de Ligt opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
The first half was a difficult one for the Brits, especially when by the 35th minute Hakim Ziyech put Ajax two goals ahead. But just as Ajax thought of winning in glory, Lucas Moura did it all and now they will face Liverpool in Madrid at the start of June. The Totthenam strike sparked Spur’s comeback after racing on to Dele Alli’s pass before dispatching a low shot past Andre Onana.
Of course outspoken Portuguese Manager Jose Mourinho could not keep his mouth shut on this match either. As much as he slammed Barcelona for acting as U14 players, he had something to say about Ajax players too. After all, now he’s in a position to slam others as much as they did with him when coaching.
He described their approach “like they were playing Vitesse in the Dutch league”.
Ouch! Adding to that he said agreed that they need to change their philosophy.
In Mourinho’s view, Daley Blind and Matthijs de Ligt are the ones to blame for Ajax’s second half collapse. According to Mourinho the Dutch forgot one crucial thing – that they were playing the semi-final of a Champions League game to enter the final. He described their approach “like they were playing Vitesse in the Dutch league”. Ouch! Adding to that he said agreed that they need to change their philosophy.
Moral of the story is that two UK teams are now facing each other in the Champions league. This will make all UK stop working for a day. It is said that UK PM Theresa May will also be watching the game together with her entourage, to get some tips of how to deal with the EU and Brexit deal. It is said that Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp had already offered Theresa May his support of how to handle Brexit.
Will she take him on board to deal for Brexit?! Who know who will be May supporting.
