In Yo’ Face Sergio Ramos!
The fans had to watch their controversial captain following the game from the booth in the stands instead of on the field. And this is all because of this own doing after Ramos intentionally got a yellow card in 89th minute of the first leg to miss the second (on accumulation).
This would have left him clear of suspension for the quarter finals but since he admitted he intentionally got yellow carded, his ban was extended to two matches instead of one. Talking about backfiring tactics!
Just a reminder that Sergio Ramos deliberately picked up a yellow card in the 89th minute of the first leg vs Ajax…
Fast forward to the return leg and Ajax are 2-0 up and Real are heading out of the competition!

The second leg heavy defeat and exit from Champions League for Real Madrid is a big deal in a season where they are trailing Barcelona in La Liga by 12 points and have already been eliminated from the prestigious Copa del Rey as well.
But why did Ramos get carded on purpose in such an important match?
In the first leg in Amsterdam, Real Madrid were winning 2-1 in the 89th minute just before Ramos got the yellow card. At this stage Segnor Ramos probably thought to himself that the tie was sealed with his team playing the second leg at their home stadium, the Santiago Bernabau.
With a 2-1 advantage away from home, Ramos surely thought to himself that this was the best chance for him to miss a game in order to be free from suspension in the quarter finals.
Oh my and did that backfire?! His team was outplayed and humiliated by a formidable Ajax display. Real conceded 4 goals at home in one of their worst defeats in Champions League History.
And following this defeat, wise-man’s Ramos flopping tactics did in fact receive a heap of comments in social media. Here are some reactions on Twitter:
