“VAR or No VAR?” that is the question…

VAR controversy in the First Leg of the Carabao cup Semi Final between Tottenham and Chelsea, which the Spurs won 1-0 at Wembley with the sole goal being scored by Harry Kane from the spot.

Contrary to other major European leagues like the Serie A and La Liga, VAR has not yet been introduced in the Premier League. However, the Video Assistant Referee system is now being used in the League Cup and its use in yesterday’s Semi-Final did not prove to be exactly successful.

Referee Michael Oliver gave the penalty after the incident was referred to VAR and Harry Kane was deemed onside prior to being fouled in the area by Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. But alternative camera angles seem to suggest that the Tottenham striker was, in fact, offside prior to the collision with the opposing keeper.

Chelsea’s boss Maurizio Sarri slammed the decision after viewing the incident from another angle while Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino also admitted he is not convinced by the VAR stating that in La Liga nobody is happy with the system.

We here at Loony are providing you with both angles for you to judge:
